【USA】JKA American Federation National Camp 2024
This year’s JKA American Federation National Camp, held in New Orleans, Louisiana at Xavier University Convocation Center was a resounding success, marked by the presence of esteemed JKA Guest Instructor Takuya Taniyama and JKA/AF founder and Chief Instructor Takayuki Mikami. The event spanned four days from June 6th to June 9th, 2024, and brought together over 150 JKA practitioners from all parts of the country. Participants included JKA-USA team members, coaches, adults, juniors, and children. This included representative staff, alumni and students from many prestigious colleges, including, Harvard University, MIT, Tulane University, Wellesley College, Lesley College, LSU, Georgetown University, Stanford University, University of Louisiana, University of Texas, University of Southern Mississippi and Boston University.
Under the skilled supervision of Mikami Sensei and Taniyama Sensei, participants experienced a rigorous and inspiring training program with particular emphasis on yori ashi and tsugi ashi. Taniyama Sensei delivered exceptional lessons focused on proper and effective footwork for kumite and kata training. In addition to the morning and evening training sessions, special classes were held for women, children and the JKA-USA team members in attendance.
Saturday evening was marked by a memorable banquet at the famed New Orlean’s Rock and Bowl, where participants and instructors dined and socialized, with some even sharing their talents on stage. It was highlighted by a moving vocal performance by Sensei Mikami himself. A featured segment of the camp was the dan and qualification grade exams, where several members accomplished new ranks and achievements in their karate journey. We extend a special congratulations to Lam Nguyen of Coral Springs, Florida on achieving his Godan. These milestones were celebrated by all, reflecting the high standards and dedication of the JKA community.
We offer special thanks to the event director and Vice Chairman of the JKA/AF, Sensei Jerry Kattawar, his staff, and to the other camp instructors, notably including Sensei Jose Ferrand from Miami, Sensei Yasuaki Nagatomo from Albuquerque, and Sensei Kyriakos Papadopoulos from New Orleans. The JKA American Federation extends its sincere gratitude to Mikami Sensei and Taniyama Sensei for their invaluable contributions to this special event. Their expertise and passion for karate have inspired and elevated all who participated.
