【MONGOLIA】3rd JKA Mongolia National Karate Championship

On December 15, 2024, JKA Mongolia hosted the “3rd JKA Mongolia National Karate Championship” in Ulaanbaatar. This year’s tournament saw an impressive 170 participants, marking a significant increase from the previous year. The event was open to all Shotokan karate practitioners in Mongolia, with the aim of promoting traditional karate and  Shobu Ippon Kumite.

The competition was organized with divisions based on age and skill level. Beginners demonstrated their abilities in Kihon Ippon Kumite and individual Kata, while advanced karateka competed in Shobu Ippon Kumite  and Kata.

Chief Instructor Giovanni Virardi opened the event expressing gratitude to participants, families, and volunteers. He emphasized the importance of traditional karate as a lifelong practice, where competitions serve as a platform for personal growth rather than just a pursuit of trophies.

A total of 10 dojos paticipated in the event. The best dojo, based on the number of medals earned, was the JKA Khoroolol Branch, followed by the JKA Arslatai Guur Branch in second place and the JKA Yarmag Branch in third place. The Best Athlete award went to Gegee Chuluun from the JKA Khan-Uul Branch.

Throughout the day, participants showcased discipline and the spirit of karate in both Kumite and Kata. The championship concluded successfully, with no major injuries reported. This year’s event not only highlighted the technical progress of practitioners but also reinforced the unity and dedication of the Mongolian karate community.
