Shotokan karate spread from Okinawa to mainland Japan and then to the world. In the commemorative year (2022), which marks the 100th anniversary of the introduction of karate to the mainland Japan by the great master Funakoshi Gichin, it has been decided that Okinawa Prefecture will honor the great achievements of Shihan Funakoshi Gichin.

JKA and Okinawa Prefecture is going to organize the event to share and celebrate this historic moment of commendation with as many as students of Shotokan School not only in Japan but also around the world. We would like to make it a fun festival as a “Gichin Festival” rather than just only ceremonious event. We have prepared fun projects such as various seminars, photo rallies, and optional tours so that the whole family can participate.

After participating in the first world championship in seven years, let’s celebrate together this memorial event in Okinawa, the birthplace of Grate master.

We hope that you will join us in this once-in-a-century festival.
