【GHANA】JKA Training Camp in Ghana

Event Overview : The training camp took place over two days, on Saturday, 15th, and Sunday, 16th February 2025. We had an excellent turnout with over 100 participants from Ghana and neighboring countries, including Burkina Faso, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone.

Training Sessions : Each day featured two training sessions, one in the morning and one in the evening, each lasting two hours. The sessions comprehensively covered the three pillars of karate: kihon, kata, and kumite, ensuring a balanced and rigorous training experience for all attendees.

Gradings & Qualification Tests : On the second day, we conducted grading and qualification tests. We are pleased to report that five karateka successfully passed their shodan (1st-degree black belt) tests. Their dedication and hard work were evident throughout the camp.

Judge’s Course : Additionally, a judge’s course was held on the first day, aimed at improving officiating standards within our region. Four exponents tested for the Judge D certification, marking a significant step in the development of refereeing expertise.

Official Launch of JKA Ghana Branch : A major highlight of the event was the official launch of the Japan Karate Association—Ghana Branch. The occasion was graced by key members of the national federation, including the Technical Director, members of the technical team, and the Vice President of the Commonwealth Karate Federation. Their presence underscored the significance of this milestone for karate in Ghana and the broader West African region.

Acknowledgments & Future Plans :We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all instructors, students, and volunteers who contributed to making this maiden edition a resounding success. Their dedication and enthusiasm were instrumental in ensuring a smooth and impactful event.

We look forward to an even more successful training camp next year and will continue working towards the growth and excellence of JKA in the region.
