Dear JKA Family,

We had a fantastic Gasshuku in Budapest this year again, nearly 350 participants from 14 countries! Thanks to all the participants and of course Kurihara Kazuaki Sensei, who visited us the 2nd time this year. Unfortunately Sawada Kazuhiro Sensei couldn’t come this year due to health problems – we wish him the quickest possible recovery.

We worked on our basic skills, very much emphasized the right hips work, Kurihara Sensei showed us excellent excercises to practise sen-no-sen, go-no-sen and deai technics, and of course we went through many katas: Taikyoku Shodan, all the Heian Katas, Bassai Dai, Tekki Shodan, Tekki Sandan, Kanku Sho, Meikyo, Gojushiho Dai.

In the end we had a quite succesful dan examination with the following results:

SHODAN: 26, NIDAN: 16, SANDAN: 12, YONDAN: 7, GODAN: 4

…and some qualification exams: INSTRUCTOR: 5, JUDGE: 1

No Budapest Gasshuku without a friendly Shotokan Cup in the end, where the Man Individual Kumite Category became a qualification stage for the EUMS CUP – the final will be held in the Czech Republic in the end of the year.

…and of course a memorable Sayonara Party this year again, we hope most of the participants left with good memories and learnt a lot – see you next year!
