JKA WF / EUROPE SEMINAR
November 15th – 17th 2019
JKA Belgium hosted the 3rd edition of JKA Europe seminar close to Brussels, the heart of Europe. We were delighted to welcome once again Ueki Shuseki Shihan (Chief instructor of JKA WF), as well as Ogura Sensei (Managing Director of JKA HQ) and Bura Sensei (Chief instructor JKA Europe). The seminar was a huge success, with as good as 500 participants from 20 countries.
The first day of the seminar focused on kihon. Ueki Shuseki Shihan gave us a crash course in stances and uke waza, especially the less frequently applied ones. Stability, kime and hikite were stressed upon, as fundamental aspects of our JKA karate.
Keri waza formed the second part of the first day. Ueki Shuseki Shihan himself demonstrated the importance of sharpness and timing, in kihon and in kumite. In the evening there was the written examination for Jugdes.
The second day of the seminar the focus shifted towards kata.
Bassai dai, Kanku dai and Jion were meticulously reviewed, technique per technique as well as its applications by Ueki Shuseki Shihan.
Ogura Sensei was teaching to all people who applied for Dantest and Qualification Test in order to help.
After the break we shifted gears to Gojushiho sho and Unsu, very advanced kata often practiced by competitors. Bura sensei gave an overview of the most frequently made mistakes in both kata, stressing the importance of the fundamental principles of JKA karate.
Ogura Sensei started with the practical examinations of the Judges.
After the cours ther was the written examinations for Instructors and Examiners.
Besides the very well attended general classes, the seminar also offered various grading opportunities and referee classes.
On Sunday morning the Dangrading and the Instructors and Examiners qualifications test were held.
The 3rd edition of JKA Europe seminar was an excellent opportunity to review the fundamental technical aspects, and to rekindle our karate connections.
