【BELGIUM】International JKA camp S. MIYAZAKI 2024 – GENTH / BELGIUM

Every year – just before the end of the sporting season – the international JKA camp S. Miyazaki in Ghent is still noted in bold in our joint agenda. With this international JKA camp we try to explicitly place Miyazaki shihan in the spotlight again, so that every (Belgian) karateka knows and remembers what he means to our Belgian JKA family.

The Belgian JKA family always gathers en masse before enjoying a well-deserved summer holiday. It is not just a moment to practice karate together – regardless of grade and age (from 8 years to 80+). But also to have fun with club members and friends, to strengthen old friendship ties and/or forge new ones.

It was remarkable that we were once again able to welcome many foreign karateka for this edition. Perhaps it was the organization of the JKA Europe Cup at the same location earlier in the year that prompted several karateka to return to Ghent (Belgium) to participate in our camp?

A camp without instructors is like a café without beer. And for this edition we welcomed the following incredible instructors team: Ogura sensei, Naka sensei and Ohta sensei. This camp always takes place under the auspices of JKA Belgium Academy, of which our own chief instructor Gneo sensei is the figurehead. And, last but not least, Sawada sensei was also present.

The attendees – around 700 karateka in total (yes, a new record) – were split up by grade into seven different groups, which may or may not train in shifts. The youngsters were also present with a very enthusiastic group, who were only allowed to receive training from some Belgian teachers but also from Ohta sensei & Sawada sensei.

Each training was based on a kata, bringing up various karate aspects, such as:

  1. How to use kime in kihon – kumite – kata
  2. How to use rhythm in kihon – kumite – kata
  3. How to use koshi in kihon – kumite – kata
  4. How to use tachi kata in kihon – kumite – kata
  5. How to use kihon waza in kihon – kumite – kata
  6. How to use kata in self defense
  7. How to use kata in kumite (in ippon kumite – kaeshi ippon kumite – jyu kumite)

The instructors were relaxed and all provided fantastic and wonderful training. Trainings that could inspire and motivate everyone. In short: all those present were able to improve their karate level to their heart’s content and return home with renewed knowledge.

If you wish, you can still enjoy some nice images. And, you are also more than welcome to already save the date for the next edition, namely from Friday 4th  to Sunday 6th of July 2025! See you all in Belgium!
